Telefónica develops a new way to see real-time shows with virtual reality and 5G with a pilot in Malaga
The virtual reality and the bandwidth of the 5G allow to follow an event live and in 360º without being physically in the venue where it is celebrated.
The initiative has had the cutting-edge virtual reality and 360º technology of the Malaga companies VREstudio and Linos Soluciones Informáticas.
Movistar is the main sponsor of the Copa del Rey and broadcasts the event exclusively through #Vamos.
This new use case is part of the 5G Technological Cities project, launched by Telefónica.
Madrid, February 14, 2020.- Telefónica has made a live broadcast in 360º of the Barça-Valencia Basket match of the Copa del Rey of the acb through 5G, which is a new immersive way of seeing Real-time shows through virtual reality without being physically in the venue where the event is held.
This initiative is part of Movistar's set of actions as the main sponsor of the Copa del Rey basketball -Málaga, from February 13 to 16- which will be the exclusive coverage of the event through #Vamos (dial 8 ).
The public, located in the vicinity of the José Mª Martin Carpena sports hall, Martin Carpena, has been able to follow the game with virtual reality glasses HTC VIVE Standalone and Oculus QUEST with an application developed by the Malaga company VREstudio and Linos Soluciones Informáticas thanks to the transmission made via 5G of the images captured by three 360º cameras located in the Martín Carpena sports hall, one over the basket, another in the referee zone and a third under the basket to cover all angles.
The bandwidth and high-speed data packet transmission capability offered by 5G technology, in this case up to 60 Mb / s of upload video, have made this immersive experience of watching the game live with virtual reality possible and 360º as if it were in the Martín Carpena pavilion.
The initiative is part of the 5G Technological Cities project, launched by Telefónica in 2018 to turn Malaga, Talavera de la Reina, Alcobendas, Segovia and Barcelona into real 5G scenarios where both the technological deployment and the cases of parallel use to enhance the capabilities of the new generation of mobile telephony. It has had the support of the City Council of Malaga, manager of the sports hall.
Telefónica has made this experience and has used the leading virtual reality and 360º technology of the Malaga-based company VREstudio and Linos Soluciones Informáticas, located at the Malaga Digital Content Pole, in line with the objective of strengthening local businesses and startups in the 5G Technology Cities projects.
